Content Writers Know Homepage Text Matters, Do You?

I want to preface this article by saying this, everything I suggest to my clients in terms of organic SEO and content writing, I have tried myself.  I conduct many experiments with our website's content and if I get exceptional results in Google or other search engines, I make recommendations to our clients.

We just launched Star Content Writers in April.  I had a keyword strategy from the beginning.  I knew I was to target the keyword phrases that delivered the most relevant traffic to our website.  When launching our website, I wanted to see how important homepage text really was in terms of obtaining high search engine placement for my desired keyword phrases.

Well, today, the results are in!

You see, I started without much text on our homepage.  These words were somewhat optimized, but not entirely.  I started out in Google in the land of "non-existence".  However, over time, I managed to land on page three and four for some of the keyword phrases I coveted.  Good results for a new site, but not stellar.

It All Changed When I Added More Homepage Text
Not too long ago, I added a lot more content to our homepage.  My content was heavily optimized and relevant to my keyword strategy.  It also promoted my business, yet presented visitors with useful information.

After adding this content, I went from page three and four to the top of PAGE TWO.  I am pretty positive in the next few months, I will have secured page one.  The results of my experiment prove that homepage content really does matter.  You absolutely need optimized content writing on your homepage to perform well in the search engines.

Why?
Your homepage is where the search engine spiders land first.  They crawl this page (and your sitemap) and start to gather data on what search terms are relevant to your website (think keyword density).  Spiders hit the homepage and then find links to your subpages.  Then, they find links from your subpages to your other internal and external pages.   On and on it goes.

Homepage Content Writing Tips
If you want to make a positive difference in the performance of our website in search, focus your energy on your homepage.  Here are some tips to make your homepage perform better:

-     Have clean navigation
-     Make sure your content is keyword relevant, informational and tailored to your business
-     Include links to subpages in your site within your content
-     Include a site map at the footer of your website
-     Avoid having an image heavy homepage - focus on clean text

These methods DO help and we have the results to prove it.  I have seen first-hand the amazing outcomes clients have received in search after our content writers have re-written or created new text for their websites.
